Steve, I have not had much time to look at what the differences are but a very quick check indicates that Oclaro continues to rely on free space optic's the same as everyone else. POET is the only known platform that removes free space optics and is solid state with all the CMOS process benefits of cost savings and precision of micro fabrication.
And they are expanding this into sensing as would be expected for a new platform that can produce multiple lanes to produce with High Accuracy Assembly for Hybrid Integration Photonic Platform (HIPP).
It also means very high throughput per machine by high speed automatic assembly. Well beyond what can be achieved by existing technologies.
It is the reason they can quote the kind of cost savings that they have been presenting.
