It is interesting that they are developing the interposer in prarallel for both datacom and sensing applications. As we now know the level of flexibility is applicable to a very wide range of wavelength and frequency. Again we are talking about a new model.
Companies are working towards 100G single lambda applications for 400G which requires very high frequency and power. This allows for a reduction to 4 lanes at higher speed and requires complex modulation techniques that measure phase angle (pulse amplitude modulation).
POET does not need to go there to get to 400G because the platform allows for many more lanes at low cost and smaller footprint than is currently available. Suresh touched on this during the AGM presentation.
But consider this if POET utilizes 100G single lambda the level of data in multiple lanes will be pretty extreme but in the mean time they can stay at lower frequency and thus remove the DSP and gear ratio conversion as presented in the latest presentation.
Enables low cost 400G using 50Gbaud optics and avoids expensive DSP and gear ratio modification
