The following video clip has been posted here in the past but it is a good reminder of how even the most streamline process for active alignment is very slow. POET does not go through any manual alignment steps. Alignment of fibers and InP waveguides are performed automatically in a passive process without lenses using a completely automated process. The high speed pick and place robots are very fast and the platform is a  true silicon CMOS compatible process that is  disruptive.
