Yes, I would say that your scenario is quite likely, although the pre-emptive bid part is questionable.

My thoughts are that even if an american company were to make a unsolicited bid for POET, there is no way in hell it would be allowed to proceed without an all out bidding war to develop with said "huge Asian company". I highly doubt the Asian company would allow anyone to have POET, regardless of the size of the bid....which is, of course, exactly what we all want.

So, the question is, would an American company want to get in a bidding war with a huge Asian company, because most certainly that is exactly what would happen?

What would be in it for the Americans?
