I usually don't know what I'm talking about but on this point I know my facts. Dividend income is taxed much more favourably for the investor than capital gains. Half of capital gains are taxed up to a 50% rate whereas dividend income is grossed up and taxed down for  most investors at about a 15% rate. In essence it is much more profitable to have dividend income than capital gain income.
