Tombot, I respectfully have to disagree. I think the size, shape and material composition of the transceiver will change. One stated advantage of the POET solution is the actual cost of packaging the transeiver. The POET OI uses waveguide alignment rather than lenses and has such a low loss coefficient that the generated heat levels drop drastically. This will allow for the use of less expensive bonding methods and packaging materials. Of course the plug receiver ports will remain industry standard for some time to facilitate existing cable configurations.
