This is what investors do when they put their financial resources into a company that is creating a new paradigm that will displace an entrenched technology. It is INHERENTLY hopeful. 

Unless you are a trader, then you simply do not care about what the company does, whose products it might displace, how big its markets might be... all you are doing as a trader is gauging sentiment and looking at trading patterns, and checking technical analysis.

Only to the degree that you might determine human reactions to certain business situations will you care to know just enough about the particular company in order to predict trading trends (usually in a cynical way) wherein you can briefly ride said trend. 

So your accusation holds no water, because it is exactly what INVESTORS cannot avoid doing - appraising their investment optimistically.
