I don't think the timing is "situational", it points to a significant change in direction.  Are we crossing the goal and he's moving on now?  Are we poised for a takeout?  You don't bow out at this critical moment unless there is something pertinent happening behind the scenes.  That's my take and it also jives with timeframes the company has put out.  Bill Ring leaving is a massive development imho.
