You didn't say how you are reading it so don't know if you are wrong or right :)

The application is to bring optics closer to (directly into eventually) the actual ASIC/microprocessor to achieve data transfer speeds higher than copper. So POET would not be making the microprocessor, but rather the optical coupling.
