Well, I know one back about 20 years ago.....a telecommunications company. They had a backer who wanted out..regardless... and they sold relentlessly. Company did a reverse split 5 for 1 which got them to around a buck...They sold them down again to about 20 cents, every share they had. As soon as that happened the stock started to climb....within a year the company was bought out for about 20 bucks. I may be off a little on the numbers (you know, old age) but I owned shares in that company and was quite happy I stuck with them..
