Microsoft, Facebook and Google
All 3 were in a forum on Jan 26 2021 for the Ethernet Alliance to project where there going and what their needs are in the near future. It all points to some form of co-packaged optics.
A few highlights
27 minute mark, Microsoft says they will go to 400g and stay there awhile until next speeds are robust and pain free basically (1.6T and beyond)
39 minute mark, notice the chart Facebook puts up to say they need each rack to stay under a certain power draw (1750w) this way they don't have to commission a new data center as these hyper scale complexes are Massive and expensive! This empathizes the need for low power consumption (co packaged optics) to elongate the life of the data center and reduce a major expense from occurring before absolutely necessary.
1:20 minute mark, they all discuss their needs and roadmaps for 45 minutes, bottom line it turns into a power savings co-packaged optics discussion. This is why the lightbar and the 400g optical transceivers are so critical to our future.
Please check it out and share what you may have noticed or your thoughts on how we can intercept these companies, their business will take us to valuations we've never seen before.
