NeoPhotonics integration effort is based on SOI (Silicon on Insulator), as is 98% of all other companies (Intel, GF, etc.)

and again Dr. Suresh Venkatesan was instrumental in the development of SOI platform at Global Foundries, before joining POET. 

So why do you think Dr. Venkatesan is developing a next generation platform for the semiconductor industry, rather then rest on his laurels ?
