Interesting catch you made from the Agoracom tweet. Maybe it’s a clue?

IPG Photonics is active in a broad range of optics industry markets, including Telecom.

Scanning through their website, and their Telecom Products links, their subsidiary Menara Networks has a 10km MSA Compliant 4x25G CFP 100GBASE-LR4 Transceiver product that is “coming soon”.  The spec sheet for the transceiver says “all specifications are preliminary”.

The following is from the Poet NR today:

“The LR4 product is directed at the client side of major telecom networks, using rigorous standards for data communication between a transport network backbone to data centers and customer locations globally. Our customer is already selling into the well-established telecom equipment market, and with the POET Optical Engines, will be able to offer a solution to its customers that delivers superior performance at a price that cannot be matched today by competing solutions.”

Who knows? I guess we’ll find out eventually.  Great news today, regardless.
