This isn’t entirely, or intended to be, a rant. "Position of strength" (or P.O.S. if you prefer...) as it might be implied, suggests to me a high degree of:
a) Insulation/defense against vulnerabilities;
b) Confirmed financial or market success.
As conveyed to shareholders in the context of a stock uplisting, how can this mean anything other than share price and return on investment? Technology alone cannot constitute a position of strength without corresponding (not undisclosed future potential) positive financial impact. I wish the company had never said “position of strength” as it has massively beleaguered investor sentiment. It seems many have globbed onto this phrase to such an extent it’s distracting from otherwise extremely positive traction for the company. Every time someone brings up the phrase (either to defend or attack it) I now roll my eyes equally – can we please let it go and focus on the stellar path this company is blazing.
I must admit disappointment with Mr. Mika’s contribution today – I’m reluctant to criticize someone directly but he followed up great momentum by conveying doubt, overall market weakness, and blandness. Could he not have mentioned that despite macro factors, Poet is resilient, beating the Nasdaq performance YTD by 12% (or whatever the number is) in a healthy cash position etc. Granted a CFO is not a salesman but are there not abundant and very warranted opportunities to frame messaging in a more positive light?
All said, I’m quite happy with the overall takeaway. Of course names and numbers would be nice but I’m both comforted and excited with our trajectory. It seems there are increasingly concrete positives against fewer potential negatives. Staying strong and accumulating when possible!
