Don't assume that these companies aren't working with POET in parallel. That is the only way new technologies get adopted. Gas cars are still built today but a lot of car companies are starting to build electric vehicles so they can adapt to the new technologies. 

There are needs to be met that conventional silicon photonics can not fulfill. There is a need for a more efficient approach to optical integration which is born out of necessity.
