Message: Jsut wondering - Is POET OI also a enabler of new FTTH innovation or PON

And at the fireside chat on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the Oppenheimer 5G summit Suresh said the following:

"25:00, Suresh: One of the opportunities that we’re working through is in PON [passive optical networks]. PON is currently at 10G, moving into 25G, so relatively low speeds. Many companies have tried to dethrone the incumbent there, and the incumbent there is basically using micro-optics, using TO-can technology. TO-can technology has been around for 30 years. There’s companies in China that just put that out day-in/day-out basically. It’s very high volumes. It’s super competitive cost structure. And no company has been able to dethrone TO-can technology on a pure cost or volume basis. So that PON market progresses the way it has. Except, when we get to 50G and towards 100G PON, there’s a challenge in that TO-cans, while they’re good for optics, they are really notoriously bad for RF. When your Rf requirements get very high you are now looking for a technology platform that can do RF and optics simultaneously, which is what the interposer does. So there has been some interest in markets like high-frequency RF and optics co-integration, that seamlessly gets done with the optical interposer and therefor opens up an opportunity for these kinds of interposer technologies to be applied to the next generation PON markets."

I just found this quote here in the forum searching for POET and PON - thanks, InThisThinRain!
