Suresh has pointed out that the signal integrity of this generation of Tomahawk is very clean. When combined with POETs ability to move very close electrically (reduced impedance) to the switch this may allow POET to remove the need for a DSP which is a big energy savings. The optical engine is so small that it can be moved into the DSP position and benefit from the increased transfer capability that comes with reduced physical distance of the electrical connections. In other words the benefits associated with the small footprint becomes multiplied.
