Sorry I forgot to add the word "amateur" to the wannabe management title you gave me. I was however a Senior Operations Officer for a Crown Corporation as well as acting Shift Superintendent. The highest on shift authority in Ontario so I was paid to make decisions to secure Ontario's Bulk Power Grid. And those decisions were rewarded. I violated policy to secure the power system during a freezing rain event. I ordered the Darlington Nuclear plant reduced by half load at emergency rates to prevent a cascading outage that would have extended into Upper New York State. I put my career in jeopardy with that move because the event did not meet the criteria for safe posture 500kV flashover condition limits. It was a judgment call that could have turned out to be very hard to defend had the unrecognized contingency not occurred. As it turned out our 500kV system became separated east of Toronto and resulted in Darlington nuclear plant being isolated onto a weak Eastern Ontario connection. This unrecognized event occurred approximately 6 minutes after I ordered Darlington reduced at emergency rates.
Just so you know, given you just joined today.
