I am still fishing to figure out what applications VCSEL integration will be used for. But one thing is clear they have the best in class coupling capabilities. They have perfected spot size conversion using vertical mirrors shaped for precise beam stearing. It's what has been implemented for the 400G receive circuit. They are creating a very extensive library.
