Interesting. Wait until the discussions around 400G lambda EMLs take place using higher order PAM which some are saying can be done. Also concur that VCSELs max out at 100G which makes POETs ability to manage 16 channels in a plugable form factor a very compelling platform for VCSEL integration.
Power becomes a bigger part of the problem at 200G EMLs which is where POET I think has very good capabilities to manage and channel heat efficiently. Isolation of thermal signature was one of the strength that has been talked about with the POET platform. I recall that discussion with Vivek when some of the investors were introduced to him at IBK when he first joined. Again athermal characteristics play a role here as well. Also coupling and waveguide transmission efficiency play an important role in limiting power requirements.
It would seem that POETs advantages will become more pronounced as time goes on. And that is where industry attention gets focused. Design freedom becomes very important as the number of options available to industry become limited.
So how does a $68.59 million CAD market cap make any sense at all in this environment.
The Great POET Paradox!
