Well, that's a lot of good info in there FJ. I have been doing some follow up on the companies from the OFC and it appears that the solutions going forward in this optics space require something called an optical interposer. That's not up for debate, only the components are up for debate, whether they be the types of lasers, modulators or dsp,no DSP flavors hopefully it will be clearer for us who the winners are sooner rather then later.
Jose Pozo has come to the same conclusions, in the video below 2.5 minutes in,he states that packaging and integration are the most important thing, biggest challenge is coupling many fibres with as little insertion loss as possible because every photon counts (also stated by Prof Michal Lipson on our BOD many times in her lectures) and even mentioning interposers.
The coupling of the waveguide to the laser is still priority!
Guess what the best feature of the Optical Interposer is, efficient coupling at wafer scale.
