That makes sense if you're trying to accumulate.  But if these are warrants that could be exercised at any point in the future, why not wait for the sp to increase before you commit to a purchase with margin?

There's always a risk of a downturn and a margin call.  MMCAP already "owns" the warrants.

So, again, why now?
