This reminds me of the old Avis commercials. "We're #2 so we try harder". 

Since AMD cannot beat NVIDIAs chips, it must try other ways to be the "go to". 

At the end of the day, it is how well the package functions. If AMD sees CAI and POET as the way to win while NVIDIA watches, content with its two year backlog, they will have to embrace optical solutions. Maybe they already are, it will be an interesting show.
