Message: More on Pluggables

Three weeks old - from Linkedin

"We will be with pluggables for the next three generations of Ethernet switching and that's virtually forever," says Mark Lutkowitz of fibeReality, LLC at ECOC Exhibition. That mean pluggables continue into the 400T/6.4T per lane generarion of switching. (The industry is just moving to 51.2T/100G per lane switches). The pluggable alternatives will exist on the fringe, he argued.

Among the reasons: reliability. people would rather swap a pluggable than a chassis. In large clusters the ostentatious number of optics needed mean a few will fail every hour. This is one of the more pro- module forecasts but it does have history on its side.
