POET sells a crucial piece of the photonic revolution. Unfortunately, it is not a well-understood device with marquee appeal. It is the enabling device for much to come, but that is not clearly the case yet. POET has a nearly invisible solution to a non-obvious problem.
POET is the Rodney Dangerfield of a photonics revolution; it gets no respect outside of the world of specialists. Stock market folks are not fully impressed. It has yet to prove itself on the revenue side, not even a large purchase order. Obviously, Foxconn and Mitsubishi will not be small orders, but it's asking a lot for a stock buyer to see that without a single large order confirmed from anybody.
We have plenty of evidence that it will fall the right way for POET and us, almost to a certainty with the recent big-time supply announcements. But it is a big step for finance types to throw down millions on this expected course of events.
