Reverse Split Explanation

Can someone explain to me why a reverse split evokes such strong negative reaction on this board? I don't understand why the reaction is so extreme.

If I own 5 shares of a stock trading at 20 cents and they have a 5 to 1 reverse split, I now own 1 share trading at $1. What is the difference?

I understand the reverse split Is currently off the table, but I for one wish it was available as it would signal to me the management team would be looking for tools to get us to a real exchange. Sure I'd prefer organic growth to get us there, but I'll take anything at this point.
