Igotbanned.. , perhaps it should be discussed on the main board, but the discussion would quickly degenerate to purely a political discussion and go far afield from just a financial view of POET and the future of POET.
My reply will remain here on the Off Topic Forum. I think that the latest news item about how the Chinese government sponsors internet hackers that even steal from the U.S. government is definitely a political article. Certainly one that every U.S. citizen should be aware of and understand the implications for future theft from taxpayers regarding not only our finances, but in regard to every aspect of our nations security concerns.
Will the efforts of CCP sponsored hackers such as the APT 41 group in Chengdu have any additional adverse effects on companies in the U.S. and in Canada that have a "China connection", such as POET does with the Super Photonics JV?
Just my opinion, but the reaction in Canada and in the U.S. to the degree of CCP sponsored theft and political interference exercised by the CCP through multiple routes including, but not limited to, the APT 41 group certainly has the potential to make the present international strain betwen Canada and the US vs China even more strained than it is at present.
The possibility of signifiicant backlash here in the U.S. and in Canada is a reality, but so is the possibility of indifference and/or an effete response of no consequence as related to U.S.-China and Canada-China business arrangements.... i.e. "business as usual" despite the obvious red flag (pun intended).
Rip Van Winkle might indeed continue to be the poster boy for how the U.S. responds to CCP threats. Somehow I believe that the Canadian response might be more pertinent and pointed after the smoke clears and everything is said and done. In some ways Canada appears to be more circumspect to the real threat of the CCP, possibly because many U.S. companies are more interested in maintaining their profit margin than they are in recognizing the ultimate consequences of such a near sighted viewpoint as it relates to national security measures. Again, just an opinion. Not one I expect to have resonate with the majority.
Implications regarding the fall out from CCP sponsored operations such as the APT 41 Group for US-China and Canada-China business enterprises can't possibly include achieving a near term positive result, in my opinion. I doubt that CCP sponsored operations such as those of the APT 41 Group would fail to recognize the Canadian government as a potential target. There is no logical reason to expect APT 41 to exclude Canada from its nefarious incusions into flaws in Canadian internet security.
Might I be overstating the case? Of course. My opinion of how important will be this recent exposé on CCP theft is just an opinion, but at the very least it is something that every investor in companies in the U.S. and in Canada should continue to watch to see if things in this area heat up, cool down or remain stagnant. If you haven't read about the latest revelation in this area, about the APT 41 group in particular, then I suggest you start with the link below:
