On the kimberlite topic.
One conversion to know is that 1 carat = 0.2 grams
So, when you have 1 tonne of material (which is basically 1 foot x 1 foot 1 x foot) of rock. @ 1 cpt (carat per tonne), you end up with 0.2 grams of diamonds in that chunk of rock.
Now assume that 0.2 grams is broken up into 100 tiny stones and is spread out in that 1 tonne of material.
CH-6 is at 2.58 cpt which would give 0.5 grams..which is basically the weight of a single paper clip.
So imagine dicing up a paper clip into 100 parts and pouring into cement that fits in a 1 foot by 1 foot by 1 foot mold. That is diamond mining for you.
The stones are so tiny and the cement is not easy to break apart.
For testing purposes, they use caustics (heavy chemicals) that dissolve the rock material, but doesn't effect the diamonds. That is how they find the diamonds in the first place.
An analogy or two there.
