Petromin Resources (PTR) at GCFF Feb 16/08
This was the 9th annual Global Chinese Financial Forum held at the Hilton in Burnaby. The GCFF is a well-advertised event with major sponsors and targeted at the Vancouver area’s Chinese population. It was fairly well attended. The local Chinese media, HSBC, TD Waterhouse were all there. Apparently, the Toronto version (in October) is three times as large.
Petromin had a booth and Senior VP Peter Ho made a presentation in Room B. It was a standing room only crowd of about 100 people. I was one of the ones standing. The crowd was a mixture of Cantonese-speaking and Mandarin-speaking potential investors.
I believe the presentation is the typical power-point presentation that is available on their website (www.petromin.ca). I felt the talk was too technical for most of the crowd and the momentum was slowed by the interpretation to Mandarin from Cantonese. However, if they can convert just a few to become shareholders, then signing up for the show would have been worth it.
Spoke to Dr Ross Gorrell, CEO of PTR. He mentioned that all 150 PTR IR packages/brochures at the booth were all gone during the morning as PTR was the only oil & gas company at the event and so was quite popular. He mentioned that Fundamental Research, which bills itself as Investment Analysis for Intelligent Investors and with a base of 1000 subscribers, will be highlighting PTR in one of their next issues.
As I had met him before at PTR’s AGM, he also said that the AGM could be moved to June from the usual March as there will be more news by then. One thing happening in March is a meeting in Kuwait as there will be talks on both the heavy oil and EOR fronts.
