Hearings today in Canada will confirm Mark Carney formerly of Goldman Sachs, and friend of Ben Bernanke (also from Goldman Sachs), as the new Governor of The Bank of Canada. Last week Goldman Sachs issued a "sell" on gold for 2008 in their top ten investment opinions for next year. I think we should consider how far firms like Goldman Sachs are prepared to go in holding down the price of gold.
