When you look at the photos of the Golden Mile area it is clear that most of the land is covered by 2 to 3 feet of overburden of glacial till. The landscape is fairly flat with small rolling hills.
From the historical info provided by many of you it appears that most of the old gold findings where from outcrops due to the hardships of bringing heavy machinery into the area. Statistically, in terms of area I can't see outcrops being more that 1% of total land area (around lakes, cliffs,.. (anyone local with more actual info?). In spite of this, there seems to have been in the order of 10 or so old operating mines in the greater area(anyone with the actual number?).
The numbers appear crazy, but if 1% of the area can provide 10 gold mines, what about the other 99% of the area? Holy...
