Neskatanga signs exploration agreements

Neskatanga First Nation has taken a major step in economic development with the signing of two gold mining exploration agreements.

Chief Peter Moonias said they signed the three-year exploration agreements with two companies on traditional lands which should translate into jobs for community members. He said the younger generation stands to benefit the most and Neskatanga residents will start work clearing land and cooking for exploration workers.

Northern Superior Resources president Thomas Morris said it was worth going ahead with the agreement even before the province reviews the Mining Act.

The agreement was reached despite the fact the province hasn't yet amended the Mining Act following the KI First Nation and Platinex dispute earlier this year.
