If the climate scientists are right, moving to green technologies will be as inevitable as war with Hitler was... you can only appease so long. It is thought that there are a number of tipping points, where warming picks up momentum like a snowball rolling down a steep hill. I think that we will be well over the brink by the time we run out of fossil fuels.

From what I know of hydrogen, you are right. However, imagine a car that has an exterior of solar panels that work away charging a battery and making hydrogen out of the water you put in the tank as it sits. When driving a lot, you would need to pull in to a hydrogen station, roofing of solar panels (hopefully from ASTI!) and connected to a grid where wind, solar and nuclear provides the bulk of the power. In fact, most buildings would be tiled with solar panels.

OK, it's a bit rose-coloured-glasses, this vision, but if climate change is as real as most scientists say, and the consequences are as dire as is predicted, an effort like what was put forth in WWII, or greater, will be put forward to turn the tide, as the consequence of letting us warm 2 degrees or more is not a reasonable option. ( I reccomend reading Climate Wars by Gwnn Dyer, have mentioned it b4) Germany seems to be the leader here, with wind and solar being huge, and their ethanol plants have been sold to N. America.

And yes, I think the best battery maker will be a great investment!
