CALGARY, June 17 -- Richardson Partners Financial Limited has pulled ahead in this year's Canada West Foundation Philanthropy Club. As of June 30, the firm achieved a 5.74% return on investment.
The Richardson Partners Financial Limited team consists of Carolyn Hursch, Mary Rose McQuire, Hartley Richardson. Royden Richardson and H. Sanford Riley.
This is the second year for the Philanthropy Club: last year's winners, Allan Markin, Jamie Mackie + J.F. Mackie & Company Ltd. achieved a 69.5% return on their investment. The ten Philanthropy Club Founding Member teams raised over $1.5 million for the Foundation. The funds are added to the Foundation's Founders' Endowment Fund.
The Philanthropy Club pits some of Canada's most affluent business people and their investment advisers against one another. Each team puts up $1 million and invests it in various public securities and investments over an 11-month period. The team that garners the largest return receives the Calgary Herald Philanthropy Club Award. All of the profits go to support the public policy and citizen engagement work of the Canada West Foundation.
The Foundation's Director of Fund Development, Julie Johnston, said that the work involved in putting the 2007 Philanthropy Club together was challenging, but the results have been worth it. "The exposure for the Foundation," she said, "has been tremendous, both within the community at large as well as from other non-profits. The generosity and spirit of philanthropy of the Philanthropy Club members is much appreciated and contributes to the growth and effectiveness of the Foundation's public policy work."
