I've mentioned this before, but back in the day when I lived in Wawa, I spoke with the head geologist from River Gold (now Wesdome), asking him about the amount of gold remaining in their mine. He laughed, and said finding new gold was easy. It was everywhere. Not always in large amounts, and not always economical to mine, but his job was to find new open pit sources in the area to feed their mill additional ore as a supplement to their main (underground) operation. I can't remember how long their mill had been running before that conversation, but the conversation took place over 12 years ago. They are still running the operation with no end in sight. Timmons and Geraldton for sure are too far away for shipping ore; however, a number of small open pitters in the Wawa/Dubreuilville/White River makes perfect sense.
