Actually, things aren't that much different here. Many farms are over 10,000 acres (5000 hectares), though ours is considerably smaller, and most farm families including mine get income from off farm sources. The price of grain right now is far better than I have ever seen it, but costs are going up very quickly too. I read some time ago that long term, the average farmer with average skills and average luck (ie weather) makes just enough to keep going. I wonder if these prices are a one year anomaly or if it is the start of a new normal. Regardless, our costs will always rise to keep the profit thin.
I do like the rural life, being able to see nature daily, and even take target practice with my rifle without bothering anyone. I hope you get to see our country. I am not much of an expert on mining, but think we have tremendous potential and are headed by good leadership. That $20 target would sure be nice to see, and I think the results we get this spring will give us a real good idea if it is attainable or not.
Cheers!
