I agree that it is quite fun to watch. I saw 2.75 this morning. Personally I think that it is to make people panic and sell their stock at the opening of trade at a market order. The main thing is to realize that nothing happens until 9:30 EST so not to worry too much. Usually around 9:28 or 9:29 you see them pulling the sell orders so as not to trigger them.
