Great post JQ. Your point about the upside out weighs the downside is very true. Just taking a look at the new annoucement and board member. It might not seem substantial, but Pierre Boivin has been President of the Canadiens, is a French-Canadian business man and has interests in the resource sector. He was also CEO of Canstar, and then was bought out by Nike and then became Nike Bauer. Also a member of the Board of Governors of the National Hockey League and is also Chairman of the board of Kangaroo Media Inc. and a member of the board of Canadian Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (XM Canada).
Now that resume is pretty impressive, but I wonder why they brought him into little old QEC. Of course we don't know for sure, but these little signs always seem to pop up about if Quebec is going to be a great play.
Peder Paus, Chairman of Questerre, said, "Our board is delighted that a Quebec-based business and community leader of Mr. Boivin's caliber has agreed to join our board. We believe that our recent discovery of shale gas in Quebec will have important positive local impacts both economically and politically. His strong entrepreneurial background also fits our oil and gas culture of risk taking and value creation."
Now why would they just out of the blue bring in a Quebec based business man into the company. IMO it seems that they are trying to position themselves politically and have a member of the team familiar with the province and it's business side.
Of course we can't use this to say Quebec is 100% going to be successful, but it is some food for thought. And they are bringing him in way before results are even announced, so it seems pretty interesting.
Any thoughts?
