There is no way the board would accept, or shareholders. If anything, they'd say no and just develope the acerage over the years...which I'd rather prefer to get taken out a discount. Hey, if BP can pay $1.9 billion to Chesapeake for 135,000 acres ($15,000/acre), then why not to us. Those types of acre values are being thrown around in the NY area, so it's certainly possible. First Calgary didn't have any shale plays did they?? I think these shale plays get valued a lot higher than coventional assets...especially as they become proven up...jmo though.
