Just an aside - agreed shipping having to go around the Horn would increase shipping costs BUT just watch, the piracy problem won't last long - they will quell it pretty quick - navies of the world, bait boats armed to the teeth, armed private security personnel on board, naval blockades of the few harbours the pirates use - they will not tolerate this situation for much longer.

Egypt alone with a large vested interest in revenues from use of the Suez Canal would act decisively if no one else.
