Welcome to the board. Great article, I especially enjoyed the last two paragraphs. For our Norwegian friends and anyone else not Google oriented I have pasted the english translation here.

French to English translation

The purpose of the meeting was to educate our people on the project's progress and next steps.

As might well imagine, there are opponents out in force. Well prepared after many rehearsals last fall, they emerged from their usual arguments: doomsday scenarios, insults, personal attacks, mockery and contempt towards our guests. All pathetic arsenal of those who have no rational argument to assert was rehashed ad nauseam.

These interventions have added nothing to the emotional debate, they have only served to drag on the evening. At least, the opponents have the deserves to be clear: these pseudo-environmentalists do not want the project at any price. Of course, they are entitled to their opinion and we respect it. But here, in addition, they feel invested in the mission to come and convince us poor ignorant people of the campaign, refusing the draft.

Yet if these pseudo-environmentalists were bothered by coming to visit us, take a look around them, they would have seen prosperous farms, shops and thriving businesses, homes clean and well kept . Our people are perhaps not all university graduates, but they know administer a budget. Like their ancestors who settled in the forests of Lotbinière to clear and build a homeland, they are not afraid to work hard to earn a living. They are accustomed to take charge and do not need to be indoctrinated, led by people from elsewhere.

Early in the project Questerre, when it was possible to obtain information without undue interference, officials have been very clear with us: there is no absolute guarantee that there will not possibly complications. This is understood and accepted by our people. No such project is immune from an accident, we know. We too are able to read and inform us, give us an idea freely on the subject.

However, we believe officials when they say that all means will be implemented to minimize negative impacts and that development will proceed as smoothly as possible, in accordance with established rules. As it is for us, people of St. Edward, to manage the damage if any, it seems that our opinion should be taken into account by some media that do, however, that for opponents.

The proposed development of shale gas is an indisputable economic contribution to our community. Nobody cares at opponents, but the fact is that companies involved in exploration of gas shale spent so far, millions of dollars into the local economy.Of course, pseudo-environmentalists do not eat this bread and do not let themselves buy, like us, by the big bad gas.

We ask, too, if we can, collectively speaking, we spend fees and benefits of this industry so that the mounting debt of Quebec poses to future generations of far greater threats than the gas industry. The gas potential is exceptional in Lotbinière. Will we benefit or continue to buy gas from western Canada and increase our energy dependence in the long term? We could at least make the debate.

Over 90% of landowners in St. Edward have agreed to the project and affixed their signatures to that effect. These are the results of using questionable tactics by opponents in a population accustomed to respect the ideas of others, courtesy and common sense.

This is not a moratorium on exploration and exploitation of shale gas in Quebec right thing, but a moratorium on misinformation surrounding the issue. We would do well to also add another moratorium, this one about the fanatic militancy small cliques that call themselves the custodians of absolute truth and seek to impose their ideas under the watchful eye of the media, willingly or unwillingly, to entire population, and to the detriment of a peaceful exchange of ideas and free.
