Obviously with China's population, tapping into that market can be huge.
As for China being "backwards"....that's unfair, and I agree with your point. But their version of capitalism comes with hefty government intervention, its a long way from western capitalism.
Of course our own western version of capitalism comes with government control and regulation as well....pure capitalism would take us back to the time of Charles Dickens with work houses and debtors prisons, with people being murdered for daring to organize. And old line Communism would take China back as well....to iron Joe Stalin with the gulags and such, (sorry I don't know the Chinese equivilant of Stalin....Chang Kai Chek perhaps?).
