Message: CRISPR vs. BET inhibitors

I was listening to a highly respected science show called Quirks and Quarks on CBC radio and they did a segment on CRISPR. The person being interviewed seemed to suggest this is the most powerful biological tool in the area of gene mapping and manipulation because it seems to be very efficient and accurate in terms of extracting and inserting DNA segments (editing).

I looked online and from Wikiperia I saw the following. "Editing - CRISPRs have been used to cut 5 to 62 genes at once: pigs cells have been used to inactivate all 62 Porcine Endogenous Retrovirus in the pig genome, which elininated infection from the pig to human cells in culture. CRISPR's low cost compared to alternatives is widely seen as revolutionary."

I am not a scientist and I really do not understand CRISPR at all but it seems to me that it a very powerful tool. It seems to be able to turn off certain genes and to edit genes. It is fast to use. I understand that it's use is growing rapidly.

So it got me wondering if this machinery could be used/is used by RVX to accelerate progress OR if competitors with deep pockets could start to out-pace RVX in the MACE area?

So I'm wondering if any posters have a POV on this? It seems familair and may have been discussed previously on this board.

The podcast is available on CBC radio Quarks and Quarks.

Cheers
