Message: New RVX Publication in Atherosclerosis

Koo,

Correct. Most of what was published in this recent manuscript is not new information to those of us who have followed RVX over the past 2-3 years. It has been presented at annual shareholder meetings, at corporate update webcasts, at an investor conference, as an oral presentation at a scientific meeting, or as a poster presentation at a scientific meeting. I think that the Sept 2014 presentation you are referring to is the 2014 European Society of Cardiology presentation by Jan Johansson.

However, this is the first time that this data is being published in a peer-reviewed journal. Publishing a in a peer-reviewed journal is different than simply presenting at a scientific meeting. Not everyone has access to info presented at meetings, and often the info presented at meetings is of limited scope in order to fit into the confines of poster dimensions or time limitations. The peer reviewed article is now cemented in the scientific literature. Accessible to all (or most all, assuming one's institution has access to that journal). In this case, the article is open-access, meaning free for all! It can be found in science literature searches like NCMI PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/), though it might not be indexed there until sometime next week. It can be cited by other articles. It establishes novel scientific observations, such that future studies making similar or follow-up discoveries related to this should refer back to this and cite it.

We wouldn't expect RVX to publish something big that we hadn't heard of already at the other aforementioned venues. But this is still a great chance for more widespread exposure. The approval in a peer reviewed journal is a notch in the belt for validation and respect of the RVX science.
