I am part owner and run 2 cattle farms just outside of Calgary Alberta. They run as 2 independent farms and my family has interest in both of them.
Lately another farmer has approached me and offered to buy one of my farms (we will call it Farm A) for $X amount of dollars. As I am the chief negotiator, I had the option to either accept, reject or counter the offer.
So the farmer and I negotiated and we couldn’t come to terms that the money he/she offered was enough for Farm A, however to make the deal happen and keep my family interest at hand, I offered him the farm for what he was willing to offer with the agreement that if Farm A generates more yield (cattle) on an annual basis, that he pays my other farm B a percentage of that yield. Everyone was happy.
Now, am I not looking after the interest of the family business? … Should I say more?
