Toinv,on the business side I think you have in a way pretty much answered your own question. Don has been “excited” about all kinds of stuff over the years however there has been little to no visible follow up by the company on most of it. A bit of the boy who cried wolf. Add to this that Don is not a scientist so has no credibility there and has no track record of biotech value creation on the business side, it is no surprise that the market yawns when he is “excited”
As far as the science goes I could almost feel the excitement in Dr Kalantar-Zadeh’s voice when he first spoke about RVX vis a vis CKD in New York so I am sure there are others like him.
I think chicagoest and growacet have raised an interesting discussion and to me the natural extension of that discussion is why is there never any visible follow up by RVX on things like Bill Gates expressing interest in something that fits with the RVX program. To me there should be someone whose entire job is searching out and following up on just these types of opportunities. I know for fact this position exists in many development and mature companies alike. It’s called business development/marketing and to me I have never seen any evidence of entrepreneurship at RVX in this regard. If there is no one doing this job then shame on management, if there is someone doing this they are awful at it.
As far as Bill Gates goes I personally know one person who reached out to him on a cold call and got funding for a law enforcement related program and I know, through a friend, of another person who got an interview with him regarding a business proposal. Getting in the door is called commitment to your program. RVX long ago now got lucky when Eastern found them due to RVX’s scientific accomplishments. I hope they are not still relying on this type of luck to bring the RVX program to a successful business conclusion.
