Message: HDL Functionality

Toinv - It was some time just after the ASSERT trial results came out, so somewhere around 2012 but don't hold me to that date.

Not being science minded, at that time someone explained it to me like this: RVX208 is like having a garbage truck go through the survey picking up garbage taking it to the dump, emptying the truck and doing it again & again & again. The CETP's on the other hand was like having the garbage truck go through the survey picking up garbage and going to the dump to empty the garbage only to find the gates closed and locked. The truck would just sit on the road outside the gates idling, waiting for someone to let them in. In the mean time another garbage truck would be dispatched to continue picking up garbage, again taking it to the dump to unload, again finding the gates locked so he would pull up behind the other idling truck to wait for the gates to open. This would continue until the drivers of the idling trucks died from the fumes of the idling trucks but the garbage(cholesterol) count would be very high because they still counted what was on the trucks that hadn't gotten  emptied yet. Consequently if the fumes from the idling trucks didn't kill the drivers the toxicity from the fumes caused all kinds of other problems.

Reading the article about HDL species just put it all into perspective for me. To boot, it also helps explain the low amount of toxicity or adverse events...we hope.
