Great work Cabel. I'd let it lie if I were you. They told you what we wanted to know. The topline failure obviously caused a change of plans and their current strategy seems sound. A lot now rides on the oral presentation at the AHA - an extremely prestigious forum, and not an organization to be trifled with. Even more is riding on the publication that will come out (possibly simultaneously) in which all the scientific nitty-gritty will be laid out for expert review. Will that include the kidney and cognitive results? - likely not because that is a lot for one paper. However, those secondary outcomes, hopefully good ones, need to be published too. Many journals are extremely strict about not accepting results that have been published elsewhere. And yes, even a news release can constitute a publication.
This is a team (our team) that desperately needs a grand slam here and they seem to be doing a darn good job of being careful not to screw it up. If that means not blabbing about secondary outcomes until one has a great forum in which to present them and a solid publicaton backing them up, so be it. I, for one, am pleased to see them acting responsibly even if it means a change of plans.
