You can earn activity points by filling your profile with information about yourself (what city you live in, your favorite team, blogs etc.)
No mention of a donation, just that donations will be doubled...it doesn't seem like there's any indication at all that the company is under any kind of financial stress, unless of course one reads their financial statements.
