I don't think this is the case.  When I first contacted DM about the news story (prior to posting the link on this forum) he indicated that the company was in communication with the study authors and that a public announcement would be made soon.  I suspect that the study authors had done a literature search for safe, efficacious BETis and found that RVX-208 was the most advanced candidate (after all, RVX and even non-affiliated researchers have published many studies on its beneficial effects on immune system modulation).  At that point, they likely contacted RVX for more info and to pass along the possibility that apabetalone could be included in the follow-up trials on anti-viral activity.  And now we wait for results...
